Former Wisconsin basketball star Johnny Davis officially signed a G League deal with the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday.
Davis was recently traded from the Westchester Knicks to the Wisconsin Herd, the Bucks’ G League affiliate, for a deal that included Diego Bernard and Jalen Lewis and two G League draft picks.
The Wisconsin great spent his first three NBA seasons with the Washington Wizards, during which he appeared in 112 NBA games, averaging 3.5 points, 1.6 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 0.4 steals. He shot 39.7% from the field and 28.3% from 3 over that time. Davis also spent significant time with the Capital City Go-Go, Washington’s G League affiliate, struggling to maintain a consistent spot in the NBA team’s rotation.
The Wizards traded Davis to the Memphis Grizzlies at last year’s trade deadline, though the Wisconsin great was waived shortly thereafter. He then signed with the Westchester Knicks on March 1 before the recent trade.
Davis is back in the state of Wisconsin, where he starred for the Badgers from 2020-22. He most notably averaged 19.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals during a standout 2021-22 season, earning first-team All-Big Ten and All-American honors.
The Badger great will now look to rediscover that form in nearby Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
