Per sources, Daryl Morey will continue to report to Josh Harris and ownership, so there are no immediate changes to infrastructure. Bob Myers is being brought in to work across the entire portfolio.

Former NBA agent, Golden State Warriors executive, and ESPN media personality Bob Myers will have a very different new role in sports moving forward.

Myers was a four-time NBA champion and two-time NBA executive of the year during his time with the Warriors. He has had tremendous success at the highest levels of competitive sports. For his next venture, per Adam Schefter, he will leave ESPN to become president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment.

That means he will oversee the 76ers (NBA), New Jersey Devils (NHL), Crystal Palace F.C. (EPL), and an investment in Joe Gibbs Racing (NASCAR). The former NBA executive was already serving as an advisor for Harris Blitzer founder and managing partner Josh Harris with the Washington Commanders.

But with Myers technically in control for the 76ers, what does that mean for 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey?

Many are assuming it is “not good” for his job security, though in reality, early reporting suggests Morey will still report to Harris and not Myers.

The former Warriors executive was a long rumored candidate for this type of position with Philadelphia, and Bill Simmons suggested further buzz earlier this year.

Morey’s front office has had a better recent track record and eye for talent in the NBA Draft if the 76ers decide to enter a rebuilding era.

The move could be worth examining for the impact it may have on the 76ers under Morey, and what another established and successful former GM could mean for the franchise.”

For now, we can assume that Morey’s job is safe. But if the goings get tough, don’t feel surprised if Myers wants to bring in one of his own preferred candidates to eventually replace his longtime rival.
