HUNDREDS OF EXTRA POLICE OFFICERS WILL BE ON PATROL IN NEW ORLEANS THIS SUNDAY AND MONDAY, AS CONCERNS MOUNT OVER THE NBA YOUNGBOY CONCERTS SET FOR THE SMOOTHIE KING CENTER. AND THIS COMES AS OTHER CITIES HAVE CANCELED THEIR SHOWS ALTOGETHER. WDSU REPORTER SHAY O’CONNOR LOOKED INTO WHY AND THE QUESTIONS THAT LOCAL LEADERS ARE RAISING. SHEA. WE REACHED OUT TO ATLANTA PD TO DETERMINE WHY THE SOLD OUT SHOW WAS CANCELED. WE DID NOT GET ANY CONFIRMATION, BUT SOURCES DO SAY THAT IT’S BECAUSE OF VIOLENCE OR POTENTIAL FIGHTS. WHILE NOPD WOULD NOT CONFIRM THIS, THEY DID SAY THAT THEY WOULD BE UPPING SECURITY MEASURES. THE INTELLIGENCE WE HAVE FOR THIS PARTICULAR CONCERT FROM VARIOUS CITIES AND VARIOUS EVENTS THAT THEY’VE HAD, AND VARIOUS POLICE DEPARTMENTS AND OUR FEDERAL PARTNERS, THEIR INTEL DIVISION. THIS FOLLOWS THE CANCELLATION OF YOUNGBOY SHOWS IN ATLANTA, DETROIT AND CHICAGO. LOCAL LEADERS ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HOW THIS NEW OVERTIME WILL IMPACT THE CITY’S BOTTOM LINE. THE NOPD SAYS IT WILL TRY TO UTILIZE OFFICERS ON 12 HOUR SHIFTS TO MINIMIZE COSTS, AND ALSO HAD THIS MESSAGE FOR FANS. OUR PUBLIC MESSAGE TO EVERYONE IS ONE NOPD IS PREPARED FOR THIS EVENT.
