As a legendary team, the San Antonio Spurs have of course served as a springboard for several celebrated figures.

It comes as no surprise that one of those figures, three-time WNBA title winner Becky Hammon, is getting her own documentary.

According to an exclusive Friday report from Variety, Hammon’s achievements will be lauded through a film production dedicated to tracking her “rise through basketball to the international stage.”

Hammon, now head coach of the Las Vegas Aces, served as assistant coach for the Spurs from 2014 to 2021 under Gregg Popovich. During that seven-year run, she broke barriers in 2015 as the first-ever female head coach for the NBA Summer League.

Five years later, she once again made NBA history by becoming the first female acting head coach after Popovich’s ejection during a game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Hammon’s documentary will be produced by film companies SMAC Entertainment and 2463, Variety reported. Several collaborators will be working on the film as executive producers, the report says, including Fred Anthony Smith, Ajay Sangha, Sean Clifford Beckham Jr., Michael Strahan and Constance Schwartz-Morini.

“For decades, women on the hardwood have been underestimated and told to stay in their lane,” Schwartz-Morini, CEO of SMAC, told the publication. “Becky defied every expectation and broke through barriers that once seemed unshakable. Her journey inspires us all, and we’re honored to tell her story.”

The film will provide fans with an exclusive look into Hammon’s “most intense moments” as she navigated her career in basketball, including “moments of frustration, vulnerability and determination,” through “never-before-heard” audio diaries.

Variety’s report did not reveal the official title of Hammon’s upcoming documentary, nor its scheduled release date.
