We’re almost there, almost back in the grind of another college basketball season. Before you know it, there will be a foot of snow on the ground, temperatures will be below zero and another Atlantic Coast Conference game going up and down the court inside Purcell Pavilion.
To get you ready for those nights and get you ready for a Notre Dame basketball season that starts Monday, November 3 at home against LIU Brooklyn, we’ll take an alphabetical player-by-player look at the 2025-26 Notre Dame basketball team over the next 13 weekdays (Wednesday October 15 thru Friday, October 31). Who are these guys? What did they do last year? Where do they fit in this one? And what does third-year head coach Micah Shrewsberry think of them?
We have the answers. Here:
(7) Ryder Frost
Hometown (High School): Beverly, Massachusetts (Phillips Exeter Academy)
Dimensions: 6-foot-6, 200 pounds
Projected position: Backup wing guard
Class: Freshman
Notable number: When Frost committed on a Friday in late September on the heels of commitments from fellow freshmen Jalen Haralson and Brady Koehler, it vaulted Notre Dame into the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, a spot the program held for three weeks in the fall of 2024. All three were Top 100 recruits.
24-25 stats: Averaged 21.6 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
25-26 outlook: This much is known about the way Notre Dame wants to play ― you can never have enough shooters/floor spacers on the court at the same time, and the staff believes that for the second straight recruiting cycle (Cole Certa in 2024), it landed one of the best of the bunch. Give Frost any sliver of space and he’ll make a shot. That skill will translate to minutes this season, especially if injuries are again an issue on the Irish perimeter.
Shrews on Frost: “Just has a good mind for the game. I know every time he gets an open look, people are panicking on the other team because it’s got a good chance of going in.”
