Charlie Cummings provides insight into the injury status of Ty Jerome for Wednesday’s against the New Orleans Pelicans.
A catastrophic flood of injuries has marred the past couple of seasons for the Memphis Grizzlies. It seems that’s not stopping any time soon. One of their top offseason additions, guard Ty Jerome, got some concerning medical news today that impacts his status for their opening night.
Jerome won’t be available for the Grizzlies’ first game against the New Orleans Pelicans. Things could get worse than that.
If you go to a four-week timetable from the date of the injury, Jerome’s reevaluation date comes on November 14. Memphis plays a total of 13 games between now and then. Coincidentally, the first game he could be available for is on November 15 against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the team he just left over the offseason.
Jerome, 28, had a breakout year off the bench for the Cavaliers last season. The 28-year old averaged 12.5 points, 3.4 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 51.6% from the field and 43.9% from three-point range. Memphis lured him away with a three-year, $27.7 million deal in the offseason, hoping he could be a strong backup to Ja Morant and provide some scoring punch in the backcourt. Now they’ll have to wait another month to see how he fits on this squad.
