SANDY — The Utah Jazz are moving a little south.
Well, at least their practice facility is.
Smith Entertainment Group announced Tuesday plans for a new training center to be built on the east side of The Shops at South Town in Sandy.
Yep, the Utah Mammoth will soon have some neighbors.
The new Jazz facility is part of SEG’s growing sports campus, which will also include the newly opened Utah Mammoth practice facility and SEG’s front office operations. The goal, SEG said, is to create a unified, innovative space that encourages collaboration between teams.
“Creating a brand new, world-class practice facility for the Utah Jazz is one more step in our investment into the long-term growth and success of the Jazz,” team owners Ryan and Ashley Smith said in a joint statement. “We’re building an amazing sports campus here with the Jazz practice facility connected to the Utah Mammoth practice facility, including the opportunity for the teams to cross-collaborate and support each others’ development.”
The new Jazz facility will feature two basketball courts, a team locker room, workout and training spaces, a performance kitchen, and “amenities designed to foster player development and team connectivity.”
Given how the Utah Mammoth facility turned out, expect plenty of bells and whistles here, too.

“This will be a state-of-the-art facility and a tremendous environment where our players and coaches can work, train, and develop,” president of basketball operations Austin Ainge said in a statement.
Construction is scheduled to begin this fall. The Utah Mammoth training facility took just over a year to complete.
The Jazz’s current facility — the Zions Bank Basketball Campus, located off I-15 in Salt Lake City — underwent a major renovation in 2017, doubling in size and becoming one of the premier practice facilities in the NBA. So the big news here is less about what’s inside the new building (though the amenities will obviously be modern) and more about its location.
Especially with Sandy emerging as quite the sports town — and more change potentially on the horizon.
After purchasing Real Salt Lake and the Utah Royals earlier this year, the Larry H. Miller Company announced it has plans to further develop the area around the stadium in Sandy with new restaurants and entertainment options.
