The deadline to sign Jeremy Sochan to a contract extension Monday came and went, paving the way for the fourth-year forward become a restricted free agent at the end of the season.

The ninth pick in the 2022 NBA draft, Sochan has averaged 11.4 points and 6.3 rebounds in 184 games with the Spurs while also emerging as one of the team’s top defensive options.

The 22-year-old Baylor product will play out the final year of his rookie-scale contract this season at $7.1 million.

The Spurs can retain the right to match outside offers for Sochan during next summer’s free agency period.

Sochan did not play in any of the Spurs’ five preseason games, and has been ruled out for Wednesday’s season-opener at Dallas while recovering from a minor calf injury.
