Akins Ford Arena announced Tuesday that it will be hosting the Classic City Showcase, a day-long exhibition of local high school basketball games, on Dec. 13, 2025. The event will feature girls and boys teams from six local high schools: Athens Academy, Jefferson, Cedar Shoals, Prince Avenue Christian, Oconee County and Apalachee.
The showcase is the first of its kind in the newly-opened arena after it hosted the Classic City Championship between Clarke Central and Cedar Shoals last December.
According to the tournament schedule, Oconee County will play Apalachee, Athens Academy will play Prince Avenue Christian and Cedar Shoals will play Jefferson in that order. The first game is set to start at 10 a.m. while each contest follows every two hours, alternating between girls and boys matchups.
Among the participating schools, three of the girls teams and two of the boys teams finished top three in their respective regions last season. One of those boys teams is Jefferson, which advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Class 3A state playoffs.
Tickets for the showcase go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 24.
