The Warriors controlled most of the game, especially in the second half. They played faster, they controlled the pace of the game, and they were the better team for 48 minutes. The Warriors opened the 2025-26 season on a strong note, carrying over the momentum they built at the end of last season.

Golden State is off to a 1-0 start and is feeling good after their season opener. Some thought that James would be announcing his retirement; instead, it was an ad for Hennessey, with which he’s been partners since 2024.
James received plenty of criticism for the video, but those who know him well — and understand the game — realized how unlikely it was that he’d announce his retirement in that way. Nonetheless, the Warriors had fun with the Lakers and James en route to their big win.
The 40-year-old superstar did not play in the season opener due to sciatica in his right side. James will be out for another handful of weeks and will be re-evaluated in a few weeks.
James is set to enter his 23rd season in the league, which will be an NBA record once he steps onto the court. Many assume that James will return at the end of the season. He is set to be an unrestricted free agent after this season.Â
