BOSTON — Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown will be active for the Green Team’s season opener versus the rival Philadelphia 76ers. The four-time All-Star was described as “day-to-day” by Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla earlier in the week due to tightness in his left hamstring, but he’s good to go for Wednesday night.
The Celtics will need all the star power they can get this season, as franchise cornerstone Jayson Tatum is out indefinitely after suffering a ruptured Achilles in May during the 2025 Eastern Conference Semifinals. Brown will be the C’s go-to guy in his absence, which is a primary role the 2024 NBA Finals MVP has always dreamed of.

Obviously, the circumstances aren’t ideal, however, Brown’s season debut should make for a good test to see how the Celtics will fare with him at the helm. And while the Sixers are without nine-time All-Star Paul George and standout sophomore Jared McCain against the C’s, they’ll still have 2023 MVP Joel Embiid in the starting lineup.
The Atlantic Division showdown tips off at 7:30 p.m. (EST) at TD Garden.
