Victor Wembanyama scored 40 points and 15 rebounds in the San Antonio Spurs’ dominant win over the Dallas Mavericks.

NBA players and fans praised Wembanyama, calling him “unreal” and a “cheat code.”

Wembanyama’s performance signals a highly promising season for the Spurs superstar.

Victor Wembanyama stole the show on Wednesday night as the San Antonio Spurs superstar dominated the Dallas Mavericks on Cooper Flagg’s NBA debut. Flagg is expected to be one of the frontrunners for this season’s Rookie of the Year title, but Wembanyama came out with a statement in his first game of the season to prove why he is considered by many as one of the top young superstars in the game today.

Wembanyama went off on Wednesday, amassing 40 points on 15-of-21 shooting, to go along with 15 rebounds, one assist, a steal, three blocks and one triple in just 30 minutes of action. Simply put, Wembanyama looked unstoppable as he led the Spurs to a 125-92 win in Dallas’ American Airlines Center.

Wembanyama was a dominant force for the Spurs last year before he was diagnosed with a season-ending blood clot issue. As a sophomore, the 7-foot-3 center-forward averaged 24.3 points on 47.6 percent shooting, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals, a league-best 3.8 blocks and 3.1 triples per game.

The 21-year-old phenom picked up right where he left off last season with a spectacular opening-night performance against Flagg (10 points, 10 rebounds, zero assists) and the Mavs. So much so that Wembanyama had the NBA world buzzing.

“The Spurs might have to pay Wemby 5 years 1 Billion in all CASH,” reacted Kendrick Perkins on X.

“Wemby is unreal! 😳” said DeMarcus Cousins.

“wemby is an absolute cheat code. please stay healthy forever,” Chandler Parsons wrote.

“I hoop like Wemby for real,” declared Evan Turner.

“Vic and the ROTY came out swinging game one. Sheesh,” Dorrell Wright commented.

“San Antonio looking good,” Rudy Gay said.

If Wednesday night’s performance is any indication of what fans can expect from Wembanyama, then this could potentially be a landscape-shifting campaign for the Spurs superstar.

The fans’ next opportunity to see the Frenchman in action will be on Friday. The Spurs are on the road again as Wembanyama goes toe-to-toe against another young superstar in Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans, who lost to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, 128-122. Tipoff from Smoothie King Center is scheduled at 8:00 p.m. ET.
