The 2025-26 NBA season just started and there is already news happening in the league that is bigger than league itself. Two FBI investigations have resulted in indictments involving 31 defendants, some with direct ties to the NBA. One involved Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups in an alleged poker scheme with Mafia influence and the other involving Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier in an alleged sports betting operation that can be akin to insider trading.

The case involving Billups started in 2019, and the case involving Rozier allegedly started between Dec. 2022 and Mar. 2024, according to court filings.

There is a lot of information to peruse. But here’s one team that isn’t implicated from the cases, at least for now. The Washington Wizards. Neither Rozier nor Billups played or in the latter’s case, coached for Washington. So for now, the Wizards aren’t directly implicated or tied to it as of the time of this post.

Either way, this is definitely a legal situation that has rocked the NBA to its core. Let us know your thoughts on the situation at large in the comments below.
