ASU running back Cam Skattebo made changes after last season

ASU running back Cam Skattebo was asked what changes he made after last season during media day ahead of the Peach Bowl.

Arizona State football great Cam Skattebo knew there was no way he slipped his signature flex in at the New York Knicks game without anyone noticing.

“I knew once I flexed and sat back down somebody probably got a picture of that,” Skattebo, the current New York Giants running back, told Newsday columnist Tom Rock.

He was right, as the photo of the flex ASU fans saw so often in Tempe made the Newsday back page:

Skattebo grew up in Golden State territory and played Power conference football in Suns country, but none of that stopped him from fitting in with the Knicks crowd at Madison Square Garden.

The New York sports market is tough. Many times, rookies have been featured on the back page for the wrong reasons. New York, however, has shown its appreciation for Skattebo ever since he was drafted to the Giants in the April 2025 NFL Draft.

They even showed Skattebo on the jumbotron at the game, and the crowd lost their minds. Immersing himself in New York culture by the Knicks’ first game, he has already shown out on the field all NFL season.

Skattebo is up to six total touchdowns (five rushing) and 587 yards from scrimmage through the first seven games of the 2025 NFL season. Averaging 4.1 yards per carry, he has averaged 74 rush yards per game since being promoted to the starting running back job in Week 4.

A crowd favorite at ASU, Skattebo racked up 1,711 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns for the Sun Devils during his 2024 campaign. He also picked up 605 receiving yards, three touchdown catches and a passing touchdown that year. A First-Team All-Big 12 selection in 2024, he scored 11 or more touchdowns in each of his two years with ASU.

Mountain America Stadium became very familiar with the Skattebo flex; it’s a representation of New York grit.

And it was only a matter of time before the Garden discovered this ASU icon and showed its appreciation for Skattebo and his authenticity.
