A wide-ranging NBA gambling probe has ensnared players and coaches alike, including Portland Trail Blazers coach and Detroit Pistons great Chauncey Billups.
For now, another former Detroit Pistons player has stayed out of the fray. Malik Beasley, who had been in the midst of co-current FBI and NBA investigations because of prop bets placed during the 2023-24 season, has been cleared of wrongdoing by the league according to sports journalist and podcaster Pablo Torre.

But in a follow-up tweet, Torre clarified Beasley isn’t entirely in the clear. He is still a “subject” of the FBI’s sprawling investigation, which led to the arrests of Billups and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier the morning of Thursday, Oct. 23.
Beasley, 28, averaged 16.3 points last season and is one of five players in league history to make 300 3-pointers in a season. He finished second in 2024-25 NBA Sixth Man of the Year voting. Before news of the gambling probe broke in June, the Pistons were prepared to offer him a three-year, $42 million contract. Beasley is still a free agent, as teams await the resolution of the FBI probe.

Billups was charged with one count of wire fraud conspiracy and four counts of money laundering conspiracy. According to FBI assistant director Christopher Raia, Billups was allegedly recruited by Sicilian crime organization La Cosa Nostra to participate in fixed poker games.
