The Memphis Grizzlies led by two points, and the shot clock was winding down with less than 40 seconds remaining.

Jaren Jackson Jr. had fouled out, so there was little to no doubt where the ball was going. Ja Morant got it at the top of the key, charged to the basket and shot a floater over the contested New Orleans Pelicans defense to give Memphis a four-point lead with 32.9 seconds remaining.

Morant pulled out his signature “Call 12” celebration as a standing FedExForum crowd cheered. His floater was enough to propel the Grizzlies to a 128-122 win over the Pelicans in their regular-season opener on Oct. 22.

Morant led the Grizzlies (1-0) with 35 points. Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 18 points and added six blocks before fouling out.

Zion Williamson led the Pelicans (0-1) with 27 points.

The Grizzlies will play the Miami Heat at home on Oct. 24.

Memphis is 42-44 all time against the Pelicans. The Grizzlies won all four matchups last season.

Memphis Grizzlies vs New Orleans Pelicans live updates

It was an up and down half for the Grizzlies. Memphis started the game trailing 24-9, then went on a 18-4 run. Ja Morant led Memphis with 11 points. New Orleans was led by Jordan Poole’s 15 points.

Jaren Jackson Jr. picked up four fouls in the first half. Memphis doesn’t have much depth in the frontcourt, so keeping Jackson out of foul trouble will be important.
