MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Wednesday night marks the beginning of the 25th season of the Memphis Grizzlies.
Action News 5 was there for the Grizzlies’ first game in the Bluff City after spending six years in Vancouver as an expansion team.

It was November 1, 2001, when the Grizzlies hosted the Detroit Pistons at the Pyramid Arena.
While the team lost the opening game, the celebration at the Pyramid included appearances from Isaac Hayes, Justin Timberlake and a video message from President George W. Bush, who highlighted some enhanced security measures in the wake of the September 11 terror attacks.
The 2001-02 Grizzlies finished the season 23-59, with contributions from Pau Gasol, Shane Battier, Lorenzen Wright, Stromile Swift and Jason Williams, among others.
