The Phoenix Suns visit the LA Clippers tonight at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood in an opening week Western Conference matchup.
The Clippers look to bounce back after a rough opener. They dropped their first game of the season, 129-108, to the Utah Jazz in a defensive debacle that saw the Jazz shoot 55% from the field and total 38 assists.
Ivica Zubac led the Clippers with just 19 points, while James Harden managed 15 points and 11 assists. Kawhi Leonard scored only 10 points on 3-of-9 shooting.
The team shot only 44% from the field and 31% from three. Los Angeles will look to reassert itself defensively and find a better rhythm with new additions Bradley Beal, complementing Leonard and Harden.
Meanwhile, Phoenix brings confidence from a gritty 120-116 comeback win over the Sacramento Kings in its opener. Devin Booker led with 31 points, Dillon Brooks chipped in 22, and Grayson Allen added 18 points and 7 assists.
The Suns erased a 20-point deficit by outscoring Sacramento 66-45 in the second half, winning the rebounding battle 51-37 and scoring 64 points in the paint. Their energy on the boards and aggressive inside attack signaled a renewed focus on pace, rebounding, and defensive effort in their rebuild after trading Kevin Durant.
Predictions
Leonard and Harden should lead a sharper Clippers offense at home, with Phoenix’s cold perimeter shooting ultimately making the difference in the final margin.
Prediction: Clippers 118, Suns 113
