On the second leg of a back-to-back and their third game in four nights, the Golden State Warriors might have run out of steam down the stretch against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night.
Despite trailing at different points in the game, the Warriors hung around thoughout most of the contest against the Blazers. Portland appeared to be leaving the door open for the Warriors. However, once the fourth quarter started, it was a different story.
Entering the fourth quarter, the Warriors trailed by 12 points with Steph Curry, Jonathan Kuminga and Draymond Green all re-entering the game. In the opening minutes of the fourth frame, the Warriors turned the ball over multiple times, and within 90 seconds, the Blazers’ lead grew to 18. The Blazers used their fourth-quarter run to put the Warriors away and serve them their first loss of the 2025-26 season, 139-119.
Despite the loss, Steph Curry picked up where he left off last night against the Denver Nuggets. Curry tallied a game-high 35 points on 12-of-22 shooting from the field with seven made 3-pointers to go along with six rebounds and three assists.
Jonathan Kuminga also continued his strong start to the season, tallying 16 points while grabbing eight boards and adding three assists and two steals in 24 minutes. Kuminga also secured the highlight of the night, with a poster-worthy dunk over Portland big man Dononvan Clingan.
The Warriors struggled with turning the ball over on Friday night. Draymond Green had five turnovers, with both Jonathan Kuminga and Curry recording four turnovers. The Warriors turned the ball over 25 times to Portland’s 18.
Another difference in Friday’s game was the bench battle. Three members of the Trail Blazers tallied double-figure scoring numbers off the bench, with Jerami Grant leading the way with 22 points. Portland’s bench outscored Golden State’s 51-37.
The Warriors will now get the weekend off before the start of another back-to-back on Monday night at Chase Center with the Memphis Grizzlies in town.
