— Boston Celtics (@celtics) October 25, 2025

The Boston Celtics have started the 2025-26 season with back-to-back losses. Joe Mazzulla is still figuring out his best lineups and rotations, following a string of cost-saving moves by the front office throughout the summer. Furthermore, the backcourt of Derrick White and Payton Pritchard appears to be navigating through some teething issues, and defensive rebounding is proving to be a considerable hurdle.

Mazzulla’s team will now turn its attention toward the Detroit Pistons, whom they face on Sunday, Oct. 26, in a matinee game. That contest will be the first night of a back-to-back, and could mean the Celtics end the opening week of the new season with a 0-4 record if they can’t find a rhythm. To make matters worse, Boston may be without multiple members of the rotation when it suits up to face Detroit on Sunday.

Jaylen Brown (hamstring) and Luka Garza (concussion) are both listed as questionable heading into Sunday, while Derrick White is listed as probable due to a right wrist sprain. Of course, Jayson Tatum remains out due to his Achilles tendon injury that he suffered against the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals last season.

The Celtics will ultimately make their final decision regarding Brown, White and Garza on Sunday, most likely closer to tip-off time. However, if Mazzulla’s team plans on getting in the win column any time soon, it will need all hands on deck. After all, Boston’s current rotation is young, unproven, inexperienced and still a work in progress. Detroit could prove to be a very difficult task, especially if Brown is ruled out of the game.
