ZT details his 3PM prop bets for Saturday night, including bets for Tristan da Silva, V.J. Edgecome, Jaylen Wells, and Cameron Johnson.
After two tiny two-game slates and two monster nights of 12 games, the NBA cadence evens out a little bit with five games lined up for this Saturday. Five teams are playing their second game of the season, while the other five teams are playing their third contest. The Hawks, Grizzlies, Suns, and Magic are each on the second night of a back-to-back as well. With 10 teams in action, there are many player props to consider, including one of my favorite ways to attack the slate – 3-point props. My top three-point prop bets for Saturday include plays for Tristan da Silva, V.J. Edgecome, Jaylen Wells, and Cameron Johnson.
Regardless of the final results, cheering for specific players to hit three-pointers is a fun way to enjoy the action, and DraftKings Sportsbook has plenty of player props on the board.
Normally, I try to target lower 3-point prop totals so that they can hit quickly, either early or late, without needing lots of build-up. It’s early in the season, so we don’t have a ton of data yet as to which teams are taking the most threes or allowing the most threes, but we’ll incorporate that data as it becomes available. I also usually play these props in a round robin style, so that even if they don’t all hit, they still carry solid returns.
Breaking down the numbers and matchups, here is why I like these four 3-point props on Saturday.
Top 3-point prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook
Tristan da Silva over 1.5 3PM (+135)
The Magic drafted da Silva with the No. 18 pick in last year’s NBA Draft, and the 24-year-old from Germany seems ready to assume a bigger role off the bench for Orlando this season. As a rookie, he averaged 7.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.1 3PM over 22 minutes per game across 74 contests (38 starts). His outside shooting has been especially improved in the early going this year. He knocked down three three-pointers in the season opener against the Heat and then hit two three-pointers in 24 minutes on Friday against the Hawks.
With Jalen Suggs (knee) sitting out the second night of the back-to-back, there could be more usage for the rest of the Magic, including da Silva. After making multiple three pointers in each of his first two games, I like him at plus money to make at least two more on Saturday night against the Bulls.
V.J. Edgecombe over 2.5 3PM (-106)
In his impressive NBA debut, V.J. Edgecombe knocked down five three-pointers on his way to 34 points in 42 minutes against Boston on Wednesday. What’s maybe even more important to this prop is that the rookie took an impressive total of 13 3-point attempts, showing he clearly has the green light even though he’s just stepping into the offense.
Edgecombe looked sharp this preseason as well, although his three-point shooting wasn’t quite as prolific as it was on Wednesday. With so many opportunities, though, I think he has a good chance of making at least three triples on Saturday against the Hornets.
Jaylen Wells over 2.5 3PM (+148)
Another young player stepping into a larger role in the offense with potential for a breakout season is Grizzlies second-year wing Jaylen Wells. With Desmond Bane in Orlando now, Wells has had more chances in the first two games of the season for the Grizzlies. Last year, he had a 15.9% usage rate as a rookie with 1.7 3PM per game. In the first two games of this season, he has had a 17.5% usage rate and produced 3.5 3PM in that very small sample size.
Wells has actually only attempted two two-point shots, taking the rest of his 17 field goal attempts from long range. On Wednesday, he made 4-of-8 of those three-point attempts, helping the Grizzlies sneak past the Pelicans. On Friday, he hit three more three-pointers and finished with nine points in 22 minutes, playing less time down the stretch as the starters rested in the blowout loss to the Heat.
The Grizzlies will have a good matchup against the Pacers in a matchup of two teams that typically play at a fast pace. The matchup has the highest point total on the board this Saturday, and Wells has a good chance to deliver at least three 3-pointers at this plus-money prop line.
Cameron Johnson over 2.5 3PM (+128)
Johnson made his Nuggets debut on Thursday against Golden State in a six-point loss. He only had five points in his 32 minutes, making only one three-pointer. However, he did have six three-point attempts, which could be an indicator that he can get over this 3PM line on Saturday night in a fantasy-friendly home matchup against one of his former teams, the Suns. Phoenix is also on the second night of a tricky back-to-back as they now play at altitude against the Nuggets.
Johnson played the last two and a half seasons for the Nets after the Suns traded him to Brooklyn, and he averaged 2.4 and 2.8 3PM in the last two seasons. If he’s going to get 6+ three-point attempts on a regular basis with the Nuggets, he should be able to make at least three 3-pointers. Especially in his home debut against his former team, I love that this 3-point prop comes at plus money on Saturday.
