The Celtics and Knicks matchup kicks off an NBA doubleheader on Prime Video, followed by an evening encore between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers at 10 p.m. ET. The Knicks roll into Friday’s showdown with a 1-0 record after taking down another East power in the Cleveland Cavaliers (119-111) Wednesday night in their season opener. Four of the Knicks’ five starters scored at least 15 points, led by OG Anunoby’s 24 points, and Miles McBride nailed a team-high four 3-pointers off the bench on his way to scoring 15 of his own.
The Celtics fell in their opener at home to the Philadelphia 76ers, who got a combined 76 points from their backcourt tandem of Tyrese Maxey (40 points) and rookie VJ Edgecombe (36). Boston had two looks at the basket inside the final 10 seconds, but guard Payton Pritchard missed both as time ran out and Boston fell to 0-1 with star Jayson Tatum watching from the bench as he continues to recover from a ruptured Achilles tendon.
