The Indiana Pacers (0-2) visit the Minnesota Timberwolves (1-1) tonight at Target Center in Minneapolis.

Indiana enters the matchup shorthanded and struggling to generate offense, with Tyrese Haliburton already out for the season and both Bennedict Mathurin and Andrew Nembhard sidelined tonight.

Mathurin’s absence is especially costly — he’s been the Pacers’ leading scorer through two games, averaging 31.0 points per game while shooting nearly 55% from the field and 50% from three.

Without him, Indiana loses its most dynamic perimeter threat and another key ballhandler on a team already depleted at guard. The Pacers are 0-2, averaging just 119.0 points per game and shooting 42.3% from the field and 32.5% from downtown. Their defense is struggling even more, allowing a league-worst 134.5 points per game.

With both Mathurin and Nembhard out, Pascal Siakam is now forced into a lead scoring role (22.5 PPG), slowing down the offense even more without Haliburton’s pace and playmaking.

The Timberwolves enter tonight’s matchup at 1–1 after splitting their opening two games on the road. They opened the season with a 118–114 win over the Portland Trail Blazers, powered by a 41-point outburst from Anthony Edwards, who hit 5-of-10 from three and went a perfect 8-for-8 from the line.

Despite 19 turnovers, Minnesota’s defense held late and showcased the team’s offensive balance.

In their second game, a road loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, Edwards again led with 31 points, though the Wolves’ defensive execution faltered in transition and second-chance situations. They struggled to guard Luca Doncic, who scored 49 points in the 128-110 Lakers win. Tonight’s matchup against a depleted Pacers roster, however, provides the Timberwolves with an opportunity to reset and get back above the .500 mark.

Predictions

Given the health and depth differential, Minnesota enters this matchup with a clear advantage. Indiana’s offense is handicapped before tip-off, and the Wolves have both the home-court edge and an opportunity to dominate.

Final Score Projection: Timberwolves 128, Pacers 104
