After the game, Ziaire Williams said the fall definitely hurt and that he would never leave the game if he couldn’t play.
“[My back] just got really tight on me. Couldn’t really move out there…”
He said his recovery starts now & hopefully he’ll be back tomorrow vs Rockets. https://t.co/S6CXy6ZuE4

Brooklyn Nets forward Ziaire Williams has been having a sensational start to his 2025-26 NBA season as he seemingly couldn’t miss from three-point range when left wide-open. Heading into Sunday’s 118-107 loss at the San Antonio Spurs, Williams was looking like one of the best shooters in the league, but that didn’t continue against the Spurs, especially after he hurt his back in the third quarter.
“[My back] just got really tight on me. Couldn’t really move out there,” Williams said, per YES Network’s Meghan Triplett, following Sunday’s loss after suffering what the Nets described as a lower back contusion that took him out for the rest of the game. Williams fell on his back in the third quarter after attempting to block Spurs center Bismack Biyombo’s shot.
Williams continued to play after falling on his back, but came out of the game after a few possessions given how his back was feeling following the play. Williams finished Sunday’s contest with five points and one steal in just 13 minutes and shooting just 1-of-4 from three-point land as he couldn’t find his touch from that distance against a San Antonio with plenty of length on the perimeter.
Triplett went on to note in her post on X that Williams is hoping to be able to play in Monday’s second half of a Texas back-to-back at Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets. If Williams is unable to go, that will most likely lead to more minutes for Jalen Wilson, who first appeared in Sunday’s game in the third quarter after Williams left the game, but took advantage of the opportunity once he stepped on the floor.
Wilson finished Sunday’s game with nine points in 15 minutes in which he shot 3-of-4 from deep, showing that he was ready to play from the time that his number was called. Brooklyn has plenty of depth on the wing so it isn’t guaranteed that Wilson will see more playing time as there is still the matter of whether rookie forwards Drake Powell or Danny Wolf will be able to play at Houston.
