It was a wild first week in the NBA and that aided in making the first week of High Score fantasy basketball on Yahoo just as exciting. The defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder have already jumped out to a 3-0 start while Victor Wembanyama has looked not of this world — not only IRL but in fantasy as well. If you drafted Wemby you’re in for a fun High Score experience.
Below we’re going to recap the top-six performances overall by position from the opening week.

High Score Perfect Lineup
G: LaMelo Ball, Hornets — 86 points
G: Austin Reaves, Lakers — 86
FC: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks — 84
FC: Victor Wembanyama, Spurs — 80
FC: Alperen Şengün, Rockets — 73
UTIL: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Thunder/Luka Dončić, Lakers — 82
Dončić, who is expected to miss the second week of the season due to a sprained finger and leg injury, started the season off with about as good a performance as you can get. He dropped 43 points with 12 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 steals, a block and 2 3-pointers in a loss to the Dubs. You hate to see injuries this early in the season, but as long as Dončić gets a game or two in every week, it won’t hurt you too much in High Score.

Following the news that Dončić would miss Sunday night’s game, Reaves stepped up and shocked everyone with a career performance. This game likely altered the outcome of plenty of matchups in High Score for the first week. Reaves scored a career-high 51 points on 12 of 22 shooting from the floor, 6 of 10 from beyond the arc and 21 of 22 from the free throw line. He came one assist shy of a triple-double (11 boards, nine assists) to finish tied for the highest single score of any player in the week.
Sunday is going to be very, very exciting in High Score leagues. Just when we thought scores couldn’t get any higher, both Reaves and Ball gave us 86-points. LaMelo and the Hornets defeated the Wizards 139-113 in a game featuring very little defense. Both teams are going to be good to target players from and against in this format. Ball finished with 38 points, 13 boards, 13 assists and 3 steals to match Reaves for the highest score of the week.
It’s wild to think about Wemby’s ceiling from an all-time greats perspective. Looking at Wemby from a fantasy perspective is equally as jaw-dropping. The Spurs big finished this week with 18 blocks in three games. He averaged 3.8 per game last season and could smash that number if he keeps this up. Wemby is already a walking double-double and his ability to get blocks at a rate unlike any other player will have him among this group almost every week the rest of the season.

Şengün is looking a lot like a Jokic-lite to start the 2025-26 season. He nearly helped the Rockets open the season with a win over the defending champs. He dropped 39 points with 11 boards, 7 assists, a pair of steals and a block for 73 fantasy points in 49 minutes. Şengün also nailed 5 3-pointers in the loss. The Rockets’ big man is looking like a player drafted outside the first round who could return first-round value this season.
The Greek Freak capped off the first week by just edging out Wemby for the top overall score among frontcourt players with 84 fantasy points. Giannis had a near-triple-double with 40 points, 14 boards, 9 assists and 4 stocks in a loss to the Cavaliers. With the lack of a dominant scorer in the backcourt, the Bucks should continue to run everything through Antetokounmpo, giving him an elite usage rate. Well, at least until Kyle Kuzma and Kevin Porter Jr. return from injury. Still, expect Giannis to be a frequent visitor of the top High Scorers throughout the season.

SGA and the reigning champs played a couple of classics to start the season, one of them a 2OT stunner in a rematch of last season’s NBA Finals vs. the Pacers. The MVP and Finals MVP went for a cool 55 points on 15-31 shooting from the floor, 23 of his points coming from the charity stripe. Gilgeous-Alexander would also add 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and a block to tie Dončić to be the UTIL spot representative in Week 1’s perfect lineup.
