The Brooklyn Nets (0-3) visit the Houston Rockets (0-2) tonight at Toyota Center in Houston, with both teams surprisingly sharing a winless start to the season.

Brooklyn enters 0-3. Offensively, they aren’t glaringly bad — averaging around 116 points per game. The bigger issue: defense. They’re surrendering approximately 127.7 points per game, while also hauling in just 36.7 rebounds per game (tied for the league low).

Cam Thomas is a bright spot, putting up 29.3 points per game. But the roster — stocked with first-round picks — still lacks size, defensive cohesion, and a clear identity. Right now, the Nets are a work in progress and far from a polished unit.

Houston’s 0-2 record is deceiving — both defeats were razor-thin. They began the season with a double-overtime loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, and followed up with a 115-111 home loss to the Detroit Pistons.

Either game could have gone their way, not just with clutch shooting down the stretch, but also with greater efficiency from downtown. They’re shooting just 34.4% from three in a league with five teams that are 40% or above from behind the arc. Ball movement is also an issue. The Rockets are near the bottom in the NBA in assists.

Kevin Durant has averaged 30.0 points on 52.9% shooting while Alperen Sengun has posted 28.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 7.0 assists per game. If the two manage to click on the same night, their inside-out scoring balance could turn Houston into one of the league’s most dangerous offensive duos. That’s a big if.

Predictions

Expect the Rockets to break their winless start to the season with a statement win over the Nets. Their balanced scoring and home-court energy should finally translate into a complete performance against a Brooklyn team still struggling to defend and rebound.

Prediction: Rockets 136, Nets 116
