The Brooklyn Nets are one of the teams in the NBA this offseason that can significantly remake their roster in a matter of months with the 2025 NBA Draft in June. Brooklyn has positioned themselves to be able to add plenty of talent through the Draft, but they also have to use their league-leading cap space to take care of those who could be extended.
ESPN’s Bobby Marks pointed out in his offseason primer for all 30 NBA teams that Nets forward Cam Johnson is eligible to sign a three-year, $102 million extension this summer. To be clear, Marks is not saying that Brooklyn will or will not sign Johnson to that kind of extension or an extension at all, but is merely noting that Johnson could be extended prior to the beginning of the 2025-26 season.

“Cam Johnson, who averaged career highs in points and field goal percentage this season. He has two years left on his contract ($21.1 million and $23.1 million) and is eligible to sign a three-year, $102 million extension,” Marks wrote. “Outside of their draft picks, Johnson is the team’s most valuable draft asset.”
Johnson is in an interesting spot heading into this summer given that the Nets could go a number of directions not only in terms of team-building, but also with potentially acquiring more assets using the veterans that are still on the roster. Brooklyn has five picks in the upcoming Draft, all in the top-36, and they are expected to have the most cap space in the NBA that they could use to sign free-agents or extend players.
There were a myriad of rumors surrounding Johnson and the Nets with regard to whether he would remain on a rebuilding Brooklyn franchise or if general manager Sean Marks and the front office would use Johnson to gather more draft capital. Marks explained during the season why Johnson remained with the Nets past the trade deadline, but with the offseason presenting so many options for Brooklyn, extending Johnson could be on the table as well.
