The Charlotte Hornets (2-1) travel to face the Miami Heat (2-1) tonight at Kaseya Center in Miami in a Tuesday night matchup between two fast-paced, high-scoring NBA squads.

The Hornets lead the NBA in scoring three games in, averaging 132.0 points per game, while the Heat are not far behind at 127.3 points per game.

After dropping their opener to the Orlando Magic, the Heat responded with a 146-point outburst against the Memphis Grizzlies and then showed they can defend, limiting the New York Knicks to 107 in a home win on Sunday.

In the absence of Tyler Herro, Norman Powell leads Miami with 24.0 points per game so far, followed by Bam Adebayo with 19.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.

Charlotte, meanwhile, faces a tougher test tonight than the Brooklyn and Washington games that they won by double digits. They fell to the Philadelphia 76ers 125-121 on Saturday, and tonight will be an early gauge of how they fare against a fast-paced offense that can also defend.

LaMelo Ball leads the Hornets’ offense, averaging close to a triple-double this season: 28.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 9.7 assists per game. The Hornets have five other players scoring in double digits on average, with Miles Bridges and Collin Sexton averaging around 19 points a game each.

Predictions

Expect a fast-paced shootout between the two teams tonight, but Miami’s defense will be the difference-maker.

Prediction: Heat 131, Hornets 123
