It’s an annual event that brings joy and community to its participants; The Milwaukee Bucks and Gruber Law Offices hosted their seventh annual basketball event with Special Olympics Wisconsin. 60 participants from Special Olympics Wisconsin rotated between four different clinics, excited and ready to play. Participant Jerry Halboth has been participating in Special Olympics since 1996, but today was his first time playing with the Milwaukee Bucks”I figured it would be a good way to meet new friends, get involved with the community, see if I can rub elbows with The Bucks, per se, and gain experience and knowledge,” said Halboth.Among the players, trainers, and coaches coming in with the assist was Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis Jr. “We want to support the people that support us the most to playing in this community for five years now has, you know, opened my eyes up to so much more than just basketball. You know, basketball is just a small portion to what we do,” said Portis Jr.This year will make it seven years for the annual event to build and support this inclusive community. Chad Hershner with Special Olympics Wisconsin reflected on the night, “We’re all about inclusion and breaking down stigma and creating a place where everyone is seen and valued for who they are, and tonight everyone is equal.”David Gruber of Gruber Law Offices is excited for the event every year and said,” It’s just a wonderful thing. It’s a privilege, and what you’ll see as the evening goes on is you’ll see an awful lot of smiles and, you know, on people’s faces.”An event full of smiles and special moments centered around partnership and community.
