Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores speaks to media before home opener
Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores speaks to the media before the 2025-26 home opener at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Sunday, Oct. 26.
The Detroit Pistons are heading to Mexico this week. To chronicle the experience, they’re taking some of Detroit’s most well-known influencers and content creators with them.
The Pistons will face the Dallas Mavericks in Mexico City on Saturday, Nov. 1. Leading up to the game, the Pistons have a variety of events planned to get a taste of the city. They also want to bring Detroit as a concept to Mexico City, and enlisted the help of five influencers to translate the experience back home.
Tagging along are foodie content creator Darwin Gordon (@DetroitDar), lifestyle influencer and Mojo In The Morning host Anna Robb (@annarobbxo), southwest Detroit artist Freddy Diaz (@swfreddy), makeup and beauty content creator Fey Yang (@heyitsfeiii), and designer and creative Jamiersen Green (@jamiersen).
The Pistons wanted to capture a wide spectrum of content and selected five influencers they’ve worked with in the past.
“Our strategy here in Detroit is to be Detroit’s team and I think we do a very good job of that in setting the trend for organizations and how to work with the movers and shakers of Detroit,” Pistons senior director of brand and retail Marissa Rickman said. “But on that same note, I think anyone can be a Detroit Pistons fan. We have this mantra that we’re sorting out, but ‘Detroit Basketball To The World’ is what our international strategy tagline is to be.
“That’s a reason for the international games and a reason for us taking some creators with us, to show what that looks like from behind the curtain.”
Diaz has designed flyers and collaborated on merchandise with the Pistons, and also was tapped to design all of the team’s graphics and creative assets related to Mexico City. Green most recently designed a refurbished Pistons basketball court in Flint that was unveiled in 2023.
Robb, Yang and Gordon, who have significant social media followings, have been invited to games and incorporated the experiences into their content. Gordon also has participated in photoshoots for Pistons retail collections in the past.
“I rep Detroit very hard so I’m glad that I’ll be able to rep Detroit out there,” Gordon, who has over 100,000 followers on TikTok and spotlights local restaurants, said. “Detroit is a city I’m really passionate about. I feel like I am a good candidate to represent Detroit. I want to show them that we have some great people here, talented people that love our city.”
All five will participate in a long list of festivities in the city leading up to Dias De los Muertos. The list includes a welcome reception at Club de Banqueros, a team takeover of shoe store Lust Masaryk with Stock X and Xbox, dinners and a walking tour of local taquerias.
And of course, they’ll attend the Pistons’ game against the Mavericks at CDMX Arena. It’ll air at 10 p.m. Eastern and stream on Peacock, and mark the Pistons’ third trip to Mexico City, with the previous two taking place in 1995 and 2019.
Robb, who is from White Lake, Michigan and grew a following of 65,000 on TikTok highlighting her experience living in downtown Detroit, was recently hired by Mojo in the Morning in September. She initially moved to the city for a communications job with Rock Ventures, which she said allowed her to work closely with Dan Gilbert.
“I’m super excited to go (to Mexico City), she said. “I’m excited to bring some of the Detroit spirit that I carry and I know all of the other creators that are going to carry to Mexico, and also see how people abroad react to us from Detroit and the Pistons and how they engage with them.”
