Men’s Lacrosse (11-4)

The men’s lacrosse team got a bit of a scare from Colgate in its first round game but escaped with a 13-11 win.

Liam Matthews scored four goals, including two in the fourth quarter to give Penn State its winning margin. Matt Traynor had a hat trick, and Ethan Long added a goal and three assists. It was a rough outing for the defense and goalie Jack Fracyon, but the offense came up with the plays the team needed to advance.

Penn State will take on Notre Dame in the NCAA quarterfinals on Sunday at noon. The Fighting Irish dismantled Ohio State 15-6 in their first round matchup. Sunday’s game will be broadcast on ESPNU. The winner will advance to the semifinals in Boston, which are scheduled for next Saturday.

Baseball (30-21)

The baseball team took two of three games against Rutgers in its final Big Ten series of the regular season before losing to Pitt 15-1 on Tuesday night. Penn State rebounded with a 7-1 over Xavier last night in the first of three games with the Musketeers this weekend.

Jack Porter was outstanding in Saturday’s 11-7 win over Rutgers, going 3-for-4 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI.

Penn State will conclude the regular season with games against Xavier today (5:30pm) and tomorrow (1pm). Both games will be broadcast on Big Ten Plus.
