Reggie Miller uniform is Vintage Indy Sports owner’s favorite

Vintage Indy Sports opened recently in Speedway. Included in the mix are owner Scott Fitzgerald’s personal collection, too. He shows his favorite.

Would Reggie Miller recommend his son shoot a basketball the way he does?

The Indiana Pacers legend joined the “Dan Patrick Show” this week and said he wouldn’t advise his son, 12-year-old Ryker, to shoot the way he does … but he wouldn’t discourage it, either.

“I would have him shoot the way he’s comfortable shooting,” Miller said. “Shooting the ball is like fingerprints. Everyone’s fingerprints are different.”

Miller, who made 2,560 3-pointers and scored 25,279 points for the Pacers over an 18-year career, said Ray Allen and Klay Thompson have classic shooting form. He considers Steph Curry the GOAT.

“Curry isn’t a textbook shooter, but we know he’s the best shooter of all-time, and it goes in,” Miller said.

But who were Miller’s models? He had a few, including Hoosier-born legend Larry Bird, who led Indiana State to a national championship game and scored 21,791 points in 13 seasons for the Boston Celtics.

Miller said he mimicked Bird when moving to his right to shoot. Bird often held the ball above his right ear when shooting, while Miller’s right elbow was often bent to his right as he shot.

“I was unorthodox. I had my elbow out. It wasn’t textbook,” Miller said. “As long as your shoulders are in line with the rim, it doesn’t matter if your elbow is (under the ball or out to the side).”

“I copied a lot of shooters, Larry being one of them,” Miller said.

The conversation turns to shooting at about the 7:30 mark.
