Rebounding has been a major flaw within the Boston Celtics roster to begin the season. Joe Mazzulla’s team ranks 20th in the league for defensive rebounding and 18th for overall rebounding. In multiple games, the Celtics’ inability to control the glass has provided a catalyst for opposing teams to embark on significant and often prolonged scoring runs.
Unfortunately for the Celtics, short of making a trade, there doesn’t appear to be an easy fix to their woes on the glass. The harsh truth is that they’re likely going to be a limited rebounding team all season, regardless of who is on the floor and what big man is anchoring the paint.
During a recent postgame podcast, following Boston’s third loss of the season, which came against the Detroit Pistons, Chris Forsberg and Tom Giles discussed the Celtics’ limitations when rebounding the ball and how the team could figure out a way to plug that gap, or more importantly, if it was at all possible.
