Few teams were as resilient as the 2024 Florida Gators, who pulled off several improbable comebacks on their way to an SEC tournament championship and a national title. But now UF has to replace their three top scorers from last season — Walter Clayton Jr., Alijah Martin, and Will Richard — who all left for the NBA.

Todd Golden’s squad has their fair share of returning players and incoming talent. The trio of 6’9″ forward Thomas Haugh, 6’11” center/forward Alex Condon, and 6’10” center Reuben Chinyelu might be a contender for the best frontcourt in college basketball this season. With 7’1″ Micah Handlogten off the bench, Florida can put together lineups that many teams simply won’t have the size to handle.

At guard, the Gators are turning to Princeton University transfer Xaivian Lee and five-star University of Arkansas transfer Boogie Fland. Fland was up and down in 2024 and missed considerable time with a thumb injury, but he also showed flashes as a creator and shooter. He and Lee should provide enough veteran stability in the backcourt to offset some of the loss of Florida’s departing guards.

Back-to-back titles is one of the hardest achievements in sports, and UF will have to navigate a lot of roster turnover if they want to run it back. Even just repeating as SEC champs would be an accomplishment with how stacked the conference is. If the Gators’ size can overcome their potential lack of shooting depth, they might just be big enough and tough enough to get the job done.

You can watch Florida basketball live without cable on Fubo, DIRECTV STREAM, Sling TV, and more. Exact team schedules are decided by networks during the season and are subject to change. Blackout restrictions may apply depending on your location.
