The Atlanta Hawks (2-3) visit the winless Indiana Pacers (0-4) tonight at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The Hawks will be without Trae Young, who suffered a sprained right knee in Wednesday night’s win over the Brooklyn Nets — a team also still searching for its first victory.
Atlanta managed to pull through without Young thanks to a strong defensive effort and balanced scoring. The Hawks shot 47.3% from the field and forced 16 turnovers in that game, showing renewed energy and discipline on the road. But the Pacers — despite their 0-4 start — present a tougher challenge.
Indiana continues to play short-handed, with Tyrese Haliburton out for the year, and Andrew Nembhard and Bennedict Mathurin temporarily sidelined.
Still, the Pacers have remained competitive. They took the Oklahoma City Thunder to double overtime in their opener without Haliburton. And they narrowly fell to the Dallas Mavericks by two points with Mathurin and Nembhard out. (Dallas missed Anthony Davis for most of the game, too.)
Pascal Siakam has stepped up as the team’s primary scorer, dropping 27 points in that loss while leading by example on both ends.
Predictions
This will be a more equal matchup between teams without their floor leaders. But Atlanta may have the edge with Jalen Johnson and Kristaps Porzingis carrying the scoring load in Young’s absence.
Prediction: Hawks 118, Pacers 110
