The Utah Jazz (2-2) visit the Phoenix Suns (1-4) tonight at Mortgage Matchup Center, looking to sweep their mini two-game series this week.

These teams last met on Monday in Salt Lake City, where the Jazz outlasted the Suns 138-134 in overtime. Lauri Markkanen delivered a career-high 51 points — the first Jazz player to hit the 50-point mark since Karl Malone in 1998. Walker Kessler added 25 points and Keyonte George scored 26, though Utah’s bench contributed just 22.

Utah comes into tonight’s rematch off a narrow 136-134 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. Markkanen again led the way with 32 points, George added 29, and Kessler finished with 18. Rookie Ace Bailey — the No. 5 overall pick — may have turned a corner, scoring eight points on 3-for-5 shooting in 15 minutes. If Bailey or fellow rookie Walter Clayton Jr. can emerge as reliable contributors off the bench, it would give Utah much-needed depth behind its core trio.

Phoenix, meanwhile, has lost four straight since its season-opening win over the Sacramento Kings. The recent defeats include blowouts at the hands of the Denver Nuggets and LA Clippers, and a one-point loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on a late jumper by Ja Morant.

Defense has been the Suns’ Achilles’ heel — they rank third-worst in the NBA with a defensive rating of 120.5 and are giving up far too many points in transition.

Offensively, they’ve been middling at 113.6 points per game, with Devin Booker doing the heavy lifting at 29.2 PPG and Dillon Brooks chipping in 19.3. Jalen Green, acquired in the Kevin Durant trade, has yet to make his Suns debut but could inject life into their offense once active.

Predictions

The Jazz have more balance and scoring diversity, while Phoenix’s defensive issues continue to cost them games. Expect Markkanen and George to take advantage of a leaky Suns defense.

Prediction: Jazz 118, Suns 112
