MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Grizzlies suspended star player Ja Morant, the team said.
Morant is suspended for one game for conduct detrimental to the team, the Grizzlies said.
According to ESPN, the suspension comes as a result of Grizzlies coach Tuomas Lisalo challenging Morant’s leadership and effort in a postgame exchange.
The Grizzlies lost 117-112 to the Los Angeles Lakers after giving up an initial 14-point lead.
Morant told reporters to “go ask the coaching staff” while responding to questions about his performance, ESPN said. He also told reporters, “According to [the coaching staff], they probably won’t play me, honestly. That’s basically what the message was. It’s cool.”
The Grizzlies’ next game is against the Toronto Raptors.
