After suffering a disappointing loss to the Milwaukee Bucks with Giannis Antetokounmpo sidelined on Thursday, the Golden State Warriors looked on their way to a bounce-back win with a double-digit lead over the winless Indiana Pacers in the fourth quarter. However, an ice-cold stretch from the Warriors down the final minutes of the fourth quarter flipped the script.
Following a Steph Curry 3-pointer 6:05 left in the fourth quarter, the Warriors secured an 11-point lead over the Pacers. Yet a late barrage of points from Quenton Jackson, Isaiah Jackson and Aaron Nesmith sparked a late run from the Pacers.
While the Pacers chipped away at Golden State’s lead, Steve Kerr’s offense went quiet. After Curry’s 3-pointer with 6:05 remaining, the Warriors only tallied five points for the remainder of the game. The Warriors went scoreless for nearly three minutes down the final stretch of the game.
As the Warriors went quiet, the Pacers took advantage. Johnson scored 12 points in the fourth quarter to help lead Indiana’s comeback win. The Pacers outscored the Warriors 32-21 in the fourth quarter to deal Golden State a brutal loss on the road, 114-109.
Curry led the Warriors with 24 points on 8-of-23 shooting from the field with four made 3-pointers to go along with two assists in 29 minutes. Jimmy Butler was the only other member of the Warriors to score 20 points against the Pacers.
Aaron Nesmith scored a game-high 31 points for the Pacers while Pascal Siakam tacked on 27 points. Johnson also added a double-double performance for the Pacers with 25 points and 11 rebounds.
After their strong start in the first week of the season, the Warriors have now suffered back-to-back losses while falling to a 4-3 record on the season. The Warriors will get two days off before opening up the doors to Chase Center for a contest against Devin Booker and the Suns on Tuesday.
