Backup Boston Celtics wing Baylor Scheierman has been sparse on the court to start the 2025-26 NBA season, the Creighton alum having been buried in the team’s rotation for reasons unknown to the general public. But in recent tilts, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla has been playing Scheierman more, even praising the young Celtic shooting guard for his play.

It seemed possible that Scheierman might have a tough battle ahead of him to get back on the court with Boston early in the start to the season, and such dynamics do not exactly lend themselves to the sort of confident play needed to snap whatever errors were keeping the Hastings, Nebraska native benched. After putting up a season-high 17 points (3 points shy of his career high), 5 rebounds, an assist and 2 steals in 23 minutes of floor time in Boston’s 128-101 blowout loss to the Houston Rockets on Saturday (Nov. 1), the former 30th overall pick again flashed the potential that convinced Boston to take him in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft.

“Every game, I come in and just try to make a positive impact with whatever time I’m given,” said Scheierman postgame. “And at the end of the day, I can rest my head knowing that I’m coming in just playing hard, trying to do my best.”

As to what his mindset was after such a spotty start to his season, the Celtics wing replied, “Just play hard, try to impact the game in a positive way.”

“Just try to make winning plays, whether that’s making shots or diving on the ground or getting legal screens. It’s kind of my mindset coming into every game.”

Something tells us that if that mindset can produce even part of what he was able to against the Rockets, we could well be seeing a lot more of Scheierman soon.
