Devin Booker scored 28 points and registered a double-double as the Suns beat the Spurs 130-118 to hand San Antonio their first loss of the season.

Booker was one of six Suns players to score double-digit points as he finished with 28 points, 13 assists and two rebounds while shooting 10 of 15 from the field.

The Suns put up an dominant performance against the Spurs at Mortgage Matchup Center despite still being without Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks on Sunday.

The Suns led by as many as 31 points in the win. The Spurs did make it interesting in the fourth quarter with a 14-0 run to make it a 14-point game before the Suns would then counter with 7-0 run. After the Suns made it 118-97 with under five minutes to go, Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson would remove his starters for the rest of the game.

With the loss, the Spurs (5-1) were the last undefeated team in the NBA to lose their first game of the season after the Chicago Bulls lost to the New York Knicks earlier Sunday evening.

Suns limit Victor Wembanyama in win

The Suns were the first team this season to hold Spurs star Victor Wembanyama scoreless in the first quarter. Wembanyama was held to just two points in the first half and finished the game with nine points, two assists and nine rebounds while shooting 4 of 14 from the field.

Wembanyama entered Sunday’s contest averaging 30.2 points, 14.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game this season.

Stephon Castle led the Spurs with 26 points on Sunday.

Suns’ next game

Following the win, the Suns head out for a quick road trip to San Francisco to face the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday.
