CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – SEMO men’s basketball won’t start the season at home, but the Redhawks will remain in the Show Me State.
The Redhawks travel to in-state rival Saint Louis University on Monday for a 7:00 p.m. showdown to open the 2024-25 season. For those who can’t make the trip, the game will stream live on ESPN+.
Coming off their first-ever, outright regular-season conference championship, head coach Brad Korn has spoken previously this summer about the confidence he has in this year’s group, one that includes nine returners: Brendan Terry, Troy Cole Jr., Braxton Stacker, David Idada, BJ Ward, Saxton Hoepker, Jay Reynolds, Elliot Lowndes, and Marqueas Bell.
In addition to the returners, four newcomers will join the team. PJ Farmer and Trace Sadler are freshmen from Sikeston. Landren Blocker, Blaize Sagna, and Luke Almodovar from the transfer portal.
Following the season opener, the Redhawks will continue on the road, Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Mizzou. The Tigers made the NCAA Tournament last season, falling to Drake in the Round of 64.
Women’s basketball opens the season the following evening, on the road at Illinois. Tuesday’s tipoff in Champaign is set for 6 p.m., with the game streaming live on Big Ten Plus.
The Redhawks return four players for ‘25-26: Anjelicia Del Valle, Da’Kariya Jackson, Ainaya Williams, and Lexi McCully.
Of the four, McCully has the most experience. McCully played under head coach Briley Palmer at Mineral Area College before they both joined the Redhawks.
For coach Palmer, year 2 brings plenty of new things, but some things remain constant, one being a tough schedule. In addition to the season opener at Illinois, the Redhawks have a Thanksgiving Tournament at Arizona State.
This is Palmer’s first season with a full offseason to prepare, something she addressed earlier this year.
After the season opener, the Redhawks will return home for their home opener versus Evansville, Thursday, November 6, at 11 a.m., a Classroom on the Court game.
