After starting the season 5-0, the Chicago Bulls lost their first game of the season on Sunday night in their second meeting with the New York Knicks, 128-116.

Though the Knicks handed the Bulls their first loss of the season, the Bulls continued to get high-level performances from Matas Buzelis and Nikola Vucevic. Buzelis had 14.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in 31.0 minutes, while Vucevic had another double-double, 17.0 points and 14.0 rebounds, while dishing out four assists in 32.0 minutes.
However, the real star in the Bulls’ loss was guard Josh Giddey, who finally got his first triple-double of the season (19th of his career) and passed a Bulls great on the all-time leaderboard in the process.
Josh Giddey finally gets his first triple-double for the Chicago Bulls this season

Playing in close to 40 minutes (38.0), Giddey had his third straight game of 20+ points, scoring 23.0 points (10-for-19), 12.0 rebounds, 12.0 assists, and had two steals for his first triple-double of the season. This triple-double moved Giddey past former center Joakim Noah (seven) into third all-time on the franchise leaderboard.

Hall of Famers Scottie Pippen (15 in 856 career games) and Michael Jordan (28 in 930 career games) are the only two ahead of Giddey for triple-doubles. Giddey has a chance to catch Pippen this season, and potentially Michael now that he’s locked in for the next four years after signing his $100 million deal in the offseason.
Josh Giddey says “physicality and rebounding” hurt the Bulls on Sunday

Despite having more points in the paint (54.0) than the Knicks (42.0), the Knicks outrebounded (14.0) the Bulls on the offensive glass (12.0) and won the turnover battle, committing 14 turnovers to the Knicks’ 11. Giddey mentioned this during his postgame interview and added that the Bulls need to “find ways to win when teams do shoot the ball well against them.”
“Yeah, I mean, obviously teams never shoot that bad the whole season,” Giddey said to K.C. Johnson of CHSN. “But I thought, you know, when we played the Knicks the other night, they shot the ball really well, and we beat them at home. So, you know, I think when teams don’t shoot well, it obviously makes makes things easier for you. You can take ball up the net, you can run in transition, you know, playing off of misses. But you know, obviously it was gonna swing. It always balances itself back. Keeps looking to shoot, you know, this 25% the whole year against us. So we got to find ways to win when teams do shoot the ball well. And you know, the next day tonight, we didn’t, we didn’t find a way to win. So as I said, the physicality of rebounding killed us tonight. And you know, it’s another good team in Philly coming in Tuesday. So we got to, you know, address what we need to get ready for that.”

Welcoming in the Philadelphia 76ers, who are also 5-1 and coming off a commanding victory (129-105) against the Brooklyn Nets, Tuesday’s matchup should be a test to prove if the Bulls are legit or not.
