The Washington Wizards (1-5) are on the road tonight to face the New York Knicks (3-3) at Madison Square Garden.
The Knicks are coming off a bounce-back win over the Chicago Bulls last night at home, avenging a loss just days earlier at the United Center.
The Knicks handed Chicago its first defeat of the season, 128–116, in a game they controlled from start to finish. They clicked on both ends, holding the Bulls to 44% shooting while hitting 47.6% from three-point range. The bench was especially sharp, shooting 9-of-17 from beyond the arc, led by Jordan Clarkson, who poured in 15 points in just 18 minutes.
Josh Hart had his best offensive game of the season with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting, though he remains questionable for tonight with lingering back and hand nerve issues.
Once again, New York’s core trio of Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and OG Anunoby each scored 20-plus points, showcasing the balanced offense Mike Brown has been seeking. The Knicks dominated the fast-break battle 24–19 and shot nearly 50% overall — a mark of the offensive rhythm they’ve been searching for early in the season.
Tonight, the Knicks have a chance to move back above .500 against a struggling Wizards squad that’s dropped four straight. Washington has allowed at least 125 points in each of those losses and ranks last in the league in points allowed per game. The young duo of Kyshawn George (18.3 PPG) and Alex Sarr (17.0 PPG) provides energy and scoring, but the Wizards’ lack of defensive structure remains their Achilles’ heel — one the Knicks will look to exploit at home.
Prediction
Given the Wizards’ defensive struggles and the Knicks’ home-court edge, expect a healthy scoring night for New York, but an imperfect defense, given that it’s a back-to-back.
Prediction: Knicks 131, Wizards 121
