Another week, another set of NBA Power Rankings for the Denver Nuggets. The blue and yellow have jumped out to a 4-2 start (they were 3-2 when the rankings dropped before Monday night’s win over the Sacramento Kings), and while there’s still plenty of kinks to iron out, they have looked good, especially at Ball Arena.
Last week, the Nuggets were No. 3 in the Power Rankings. This week, Nikola Jokic and company jumped up a spot to No. 2 where they were to begin the season.
The Thunder stay perfect and hold on to No. 1, while strong weeks from the Lakers, Rockets and Bucks push them into the Top 5 in @johnschuhmann‘s latest Power Rankings!

There’s not going to be any team topping the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder anytime soon, as they’ve picked up right where they left off in June en route to a 7-0 start. Throughout the regular season, it already seems that everyone else is going to be fighting for second place until someone gets a chance to dethrone the champs in a seven game series.
Power rankings are all about momentum that any given team is building on a weekly basis. What’s interesting about these ranks is that the Chicago Bulls, who currently have a 5-1 record and are tied for first place in the Eastern Conference, slotted in at No. 13 on the list. They’re tied with Philadelphia, who is No. 15. The 5-1 Spurs are in second place in the West but are just No. 9 on the list.
As a Devil’s Advocate, the rankings cited how poor the Nuggets are playing in clutch time on defense, as their opponents have made seven on eight 3-pointers under those conditions while scoring 40 points on 24 possessions, two numbers that fans don’t want to see. There have been a handful of times this season in which the defense has lost focus, but it’s still so early in the season that it’s nothing to worry about yet. If these numbers still look similar in April, that’s when there’s going to be some problems.
This week, the Nuggets have a slew of home games against Miami (Wednesday), Golden State (Friday, NBA Cup game) and Indiana (Saturday). The Golden State game will be televised at 8:00 p.m. MT on Prime Video, while the other two will be normal 7:00 p.m. tips on the local broadcast. They haven’t trailed for a single second at home this season, and have a great opportunity ahead to jump out to a 7-2 record.
