Bronny James scored his first points of the season as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Miami Heat 130-120 on Sunday.

The sophomore star scored his first basket when Austin Reaves, who is enjoying a stellar start to the 2025-26 NBA season, threw a lob to him, which he slammed down with authority.

As is often the case with Bronny, the entire arena erupted with his father, LeBron James, who is yet to feature this season due to injury, jumping out of his seat before making a series of celebratory gestures.
Bronny’s girlfriend also couldn’t contain her excitement as she reposted an Instagram reel from the Lakers and added a caption.
“mmmm YAAAA!!!!” she wrote.
That ended up being Bronny’s only basket of the game as he went 1-for-4 from the floor as he got an extended run of 18 minutes against the Lakers.
Bronny has continued to be a reserve guard for the Lakers this season, appearing in just three games so far and totalling just 40 minutes.
After the game, teammate Reaves joked to reporters that he must have created his own piece of history with his assist to Bronny.
“I’ve gotta be the first person in NBA history to throw a father a lob and a son a lob. It’s gotta be right?” he said.
“While we were still on the same team. Y’all wanna do all these statistics. It was a pretty special moment.”
Considering LeBron and Bronny James are the first father-son duo to play on the same team, there’s a good chance Reaves may have indeed made a unique piece of NBA history.

Aside from Bronny’s emphatic comment, the Lakers were once again headlined by Luka Doncic.

The Slovenian posted a triple-double, scoring 29 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.
Doncic, who scored 40+ points in his first three games of the season, now has a total of 165 points.
It means he has surpassed legendary Laker figures like Jerry West and Kobe Bryant by setting a franchise record for scoring the most points in the opening four games.
Reaves, who has been praised for his link-up with Doncic, put up 26 points with 11 assists.
Head coach JJ Redick spoke about the pair’s chemistry after the game.
I think it’s in a really healthy place,” he said.
“I think what they realized early in the preseason, I don’t know if it was the first road trip or the second one that we went on, but they both realized that they both enjoy talking trash a lot.
“And their personalities in that regard are very similar, so they can sort of create a little bit of chemistry with each other just by being their natural selves.”
The Lakers are now third in the Western Conference behind the Thunder and Spurs with a 5-2 record.
