INDIANAPOLIS — Pacers guard Quenton Jackson (strained right hamstring) and forward Johnny Furphy (left ankle sprain) are both listed as out on the NBA’s official injury report for Wednesday’s home game against the Brooklyn Nets after leaving Monday’s game against the Bucks with injuries.
With those injuries, the Pacers will be missing eight players in Wednesday night’s game due to injury. Point guards Andrew Nembhard (shoulder strain) T.J. McConnell (hamstring strain), high-scoring guard Bennedict Mathurin (great toe sprain) and rookie guard Kam Jones (lower back stress reaction) are still out. Forward Obi Toppin (foot stress fracture) and All-Star Tyrese Haliburton (Achilles tendon tear) are out long term with Toppin out until at least Feb. 1 after surgery and Haliburton out for the season.
Jackson previously injured his hamstring and Furphy previously injured his left foot in the preseason but both recovered to get back on the floor.
Jackson posted 25 points and 10 assists against zero turnovers in Saturday’s win over the Warriors and is averaging 11.8 points, 3.6 assists and 3.4 rebounds so far this season. With the other point guards on the shelf, Jackson started the last three games at point. Furphy had a promising offseason with highlight reel dunks in preseason and NBA Summer League, but he’s played just 37 minutes so far this season and scored eight points.
With Jackson out, the Pacers’ options at point guard include Ben Sheppard, RayJ Dennis, Taelon Peter and Mac McClung. Dennis is the only one of the group who is a pure point guard by trade, but Sheppard and McClung have point guard history and Peter has worked at the position since preseason.
