POST-GAME REACTION: Alvarado’s 3-pointer sends Pelicans past Hornets for first win of the season
Finally, *** win for the Pelicans and it felt like they were about to be 0 and 7 after the Hornets hit them with *** 23-2 run from the end of the second quarter into the third quarter. It felt like they were really going to lose when they were down 7 points with about 3 minutes left in the game, but the Pels close out the game very strong with an 11-0 run to pick up that first W. the win. Solidifies all the work that they put in everything that we’re teaching, you know, sometimes it can be difficult when we know that our processes are there. We’re teaching the right things guys are working at it and they don’t get the results, um, so this confirms what they’re doing, how hard we’re working. And yes, Jose Alvarado’s 3 was *** huge reason why the Pelicans won this game, but another huge reason why they got this W, their rookie Derrick Queen, all 12 of his points coming in the 4th quarter. We needed. Every ounce of what he gave us, um, even when he made that mistake, if you watch his teammates, they all corral around him and they just told him, hey, OK, next play, we made *** mistake, turn over next play, but he, he, he had done so much for us even leading to that point. Um, in the minutes that he played and after the game, Jose Alvarado did joke or not jokingly say that 3 pointer wasn’t supposed to be for him. They drew that play up for someone else and that someone else was of course Trey Murphy, but it worked out for the Pelicans in the blender Sharif Ishak, WDSU News.
