The Brooklyn Nets (0-7) understandably had low spirits after Sunday’s blowout loss to the Philadelphia 76ers as the team is starving for their first win of the season. Brooklyn, along with head coach Jordi Fernandez, has been trying everything possible to reset the momentum of the campaign, but the Nets were able to get a win out of that against the Minnesota Timberwolves (4-3).
The Nets lost to the Timberwolves on Monday 125-109 despite the fact that guard Cam Thomas had one of his better games of the season as he put up 25 points, three assists, and two steals. Center Nic Claxton did his part to help Brooklyn be in position to get the win as he dropped 19 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists while going against Rudy Gobert all game long.
Despite the fact that the Nets hung around with the Timberwolves for the first three quarters of the game, Julius Randle proved to be too much as he put up 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists to notch a triple-double. As a team, Minnesota shot 56.4% from the field so with that being said, here are three Nets takeaways from Monday’s loss to the Timberwolves:
Cam Thomas Leads The Offense
With forward Michael Porter Jr. missing the game due to personal reasons, Thomas had to pick up the slack on the offensive side of the ball and while he was inefficient, he had some special moments during the first three quarters. Thomas did most of his damage in the mid-range while going against tough defenders like Jaden McDaniels and Donte DiVincenzo for the entire game.
Nic Claxton Stuffs The Stat Sheet
Ever since Claxton spoke on his needing to play with more effort so that he can look more like the player that was coming into his own during the days of Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving, he has been playing at a different level. Claxton ended this contest with 19 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists while going against one of the best defenders in NBA history in Rudy Gobert.
What Is Going On With The Point Guard Position?
At this point, Nets fans have a right to be frustrated with what is going with the point guard spot, especially considering that Ben Saraf and Nolan Traore are out of the rotation at this point. More to the point, Tyrese Martin is now seeing the bulk of the minutes at the point guard spot with Egor Demin playing as the backup, which could mean that Saraf and Traore is destined for G League minutes.
