1. Wolf Pack alum Cody Martin signs with NBA’s Indiana Pacers
Nevada basketball alum Cody Martin signed a 10-day contract with the injury-ravaged NBA’s Indiana Pacers before the team’s game Wednesday night. Martin spent the previous six seasons in the league but had not signed with a team after being released by Phoenix in the offseason. Martin had two points, four rebounds and a steal in eight minutes in a 112-103 loss to Brooklyn on Wednesday. He made 1-of-3 shots, including 0-of-2 from three. Martin has played 260 games in the NBA, including 54 starts, averaging 6.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He’s shot 43.6 percent from the field, including 30.7 percent from three.
2. Nevada softball star Haley Painter transfers to Purdue
Nevada softball standout Haley Painter is transferring to Purdue, per her Instagram page. Painter was on the Wolf Pack’s roster for the fall season but will instead spend her senior year in the Big Ten. The third baseman began her career at Fresno State, where she redshirted as a freshman, before playing the last three years at Nevada, earning All-Mountain West honors as a sophomore. Last season, Painter hit .311 with 15 homers, 14 doubles and 47 RBIs, posting a 1.094 OPS. She was the team’s top returning position player. In 155 games at Nevada, Painter hit .322 with 36 homers. Purdue went 30-23 overall and 9-13 in the Big Ten last season.
3. Manogue product finishes top 20 in ACC cross country championships
Amaya Aramini, who was a star distance runner at Bishop Manogue, finished 16th at the ACC women’s cross country championships during her freshman season at Notre Dame. Aramini ran a time of 19 minutes, 56.2 seconds to help the Fighting Irish place second out of 18 schools. Aramini is in her second season at Notre Dame but considered a freshman in cross country where she was named All-ACC. He also competed in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA first round in track and field last year. At Manogue, Aramini won the 2023 cross country state championships and 2024 titles in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters in track and field.
