We’re only a day away from the OKC Blue kicking off their 2025-26 regular season. As always, the Oklahoma City Thunder will keep an eye on how they do. The G League affiliate will soon start their campaign with some brand new faces around.

This will be Daniel Dixon’s first season as the Blue head coach. He was previously a Thunder assistant. He took over this past offseason for Kameron Woods, who spent the last three seasons as OKC’s head coach. He led the Blue to a 2024 G League championship.

Perhaps no NBA franchise better exemplifies how they should use their G League affiliate than the Thunder. Both teams share the same arena and city, which makes assignments and recalls a seamless process. Both teams also run the systems to help develop their end-of-the-bench players.

As the Blue prepare for their new season, here’s what some players think of Dixon in their early impressions of him as head coach. Several have already had a prior relationship with him, as he worked the last two Summer Leagues:

“I had him as a personal coach last year. He’s a tremendous coach that I think is gonna do great. I’m excited to get to work with him.”

“He’s been great. He’s commanded the locker room from day one. He’s obviously the ultimate professional. He shows up and cares. Which is obviously a great thing. He also has incredible knowledge on the game. His experience, being with the Thunder and Blue and as a player. It speaks for itself. Really excited to play for him. Excited to have him in his first year as a head coach and see his growth throughout the year.”

“He’s a great guy. He was around with us a lot last year. Good guy. He’s actually from around my way. We’re both from the DMV area. We have some roots there. He just wants the best for us. He wants us to come in every day with the same mindset. Be where your feet are, get better every day, stack days. Get 1% better each day. See where it goes from there. Be the best you can be every day.”

“Just how detail-oriented he is. For me to have a guy that my coach came from the OKC Thunder last year and was on the bench with them the entire year. To now coming down here to be the head coach, it’s amazing for me. My ultimate goal is to be on an NBA roster and being there for good. Just help me create some habits. Create the consistency that’s going to be needed to stay up there. Maintaining it. Him just knowing what it takes to get there and what it looks like.”
